Sarah Hoyt cover for “Been There, Done That”

The Foreign Minister of France getting some new duds to fit in on Home. He’s a bit worried he’ll look ridiculous but that’s Home/conservative.

Clothes to fit in on Home ?

Is that some fancy gun holster as I didn’t think Home had a dress code apart from P suits during pressure loss, spacesuits for eva and some clothing rather than nudity.

There is still custom and culture.

Why the hood it seems impractical.

    Nice cover. 🙂

Ask Sarah Hoyt. I just turned her loose.

possibly the suit being worn is similar in construction to the armor April wore during her “holiday” in Hawaii.

The left hand is supinated or rotated to an uncomfortable position.
Try holding you arm in that position and match the rotation in the picture.

I didn’t have any trouble, except I had the oddest urge to lecture in Latin.

I just notice one of the authors I followed left KIndle Unlimited, said Amazon was messing with authors in this category, several big names no longer on Amazon just audio. Notice this week also another author had all his pulled from KU but left no reason? I hope Amazon doesn’t mess up KU???

    • Mac July 19, 2018 at 7:12 pm #

What I have been told is Amazon won’t allow you to stuff the back pages with unrelated material or set it up so people are encouraged to skip to the back of the book. Amazon software could not tell that from people actually reading to the end. I don’t blame them for not allowing them to game them out of big bucks.

      • Scott Carle July 21, 2018 at 9:19 pm #

I follow a couple of the authors and they don’t pad their books or anything like that. They were not told why their accounts were closed nor give any warning.

Rumor heard that some amazon employees said that some unrelated policy breaking issue was addressed by amazon with an automated algorithm change to kick violators but that it is going crazy and kicking all kinds of authors off that haven’t done anything. again this is 2nd hand rumor.

        • T S Paul July 22, 2018 at 12:53 am #

Amazon updated the TOS (terms of service) in May. They pretty much gave all us authors a month to fix our stuff. and then the hammer came down. Many of the gray areas are now gone and the abusers of the system are getting booted. If someone was kicked out, usually it is for good reason. Unless it’s you, you wont ever know for sure. Remember that everyone in Prison will say they are innocent of all charges. It’s better to play it straight all the way around. I avoid making accusations if I can help it. We are all fish in a big ass tank.

          • Mac July 22, 2018 at 6:19 am #

No accusations, because no names were mentioned. I don’t even know anyone it happened to. That’s just what I was told by some of the Baen authors. If they have an Al Gore Rhythm doing it instead of a human there’s the possibility of all kinds of artificial stupid.

  8. Kevin July 17, 2018 at 11:30 pm #

At first I thought it was sifi/ fantasy out two authors pulled and that one post about it have books with strong sex so that might be the common thread. The fourth that switch to all buy might just be a coincidence. Sorry was panicking don’t think your books fall in that group.

  9. Joyce July 18, 2018 at 8:14 am #

Just my opinion, but I’d say the Minister’s worries are justified. ?

What’s with the robot it look like it’s dancing

    • Mac July 18, 2018 at 5:03 pm #

Well sure. The stereotype of robots doing jerky awkward mechanical movements is false. Have you seen Boston Dynamics Big Dog? They’ll move smooth and they’ll move fast.

  11. Zan Lynx July 18, 2018 at 5:36 pm #

    Yep.

Or watch an industrial robot working. They are scary fast and accurate. Not awkward at all.

  12. John Leggett July 19, 2018 at 5:50 pm #

Just a thought I had while waiting for “Been There, Done That”. I remember Jeff talking about scooping Nitrogen from Earth’s atmosphere. With the new drive it would be just as easy to scoop Nitrogen from Titan’s atmosphere and would not cause any political problems.

Good point. Less chance of getting shot down. (Fallen Angels)

Checking every day some times a few times a day waiting for book to show up on amazon. Getting excited for release. No pressure i do this for at least a dozen authors but when u have over 40 tabs for amazon open it eats up the memory lol.

  14. Katie F. July 22, 2018 at 1:05 am #

I admit to checking a couple of times a day. Here rather than Amazon though because sometimes Amazon doesn’t show it straight away.
Once I’m told its been submitted then Amazon will be the site compulsively
    checked 🙂

    • Mac July 22, 2018 at 6:23 am #

I’m looking at Sunday the 29th to save you some checking. I just got up and had corrections in email from two readers It should be ready by then and it suits marketing purposes. It never entirely ends. I just had it pointed out yesterday that I spelled Hilary with one L speaking of Hillary Rodham in the very first April book.

      • JimH July 22, 2018 at 3:11 pm #

Thanks for the anticipated release date Mac! I really appreciate your help in trying to overcome my compulsive checking of Amazon’s kindle bookstore. Somehow, it’s become such a habit I doubt mere facts (e.g., release date) will overcome the ingrained behaviour. Text suggestions when searching kindle store on both tablet and phone now include first Mackey Chandler, then Laurence Dahners, Michael Anderle, Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, David Weber, and about a dozen other authors’ names.

        • Mac July 23, 2018 at 7:52 am #

          Well I’m in good company.

        yay! a nice birthday present!

        thx

  15. James Crutchley July 22, 2018 at 7:28 am #

ty Mac for that. I look forward to reading it 🙂

BTW totally unrelated but i figured out why my CPU was overheating when i had an all in one water cooling kit. I updated my bios last year and it killed all the settings i had an reset it to factory. Not really a problem after all i customized it when i put system together. But i totally forgot to turn off CPU auto cooling as the cooler needs to have constant voltage and can self regulate.

After sending cooler back to manufacturer and them testing and then telling me it works fine and sending it back i got a email with suggestions for how to fix problem. After reading said email and making the changes it now works great. Sitting at 22 degrees Celsius with full load so very happy.

Sometimes these machines will drive you nuts. I found out ANY card in my first PCI-e slot had problems. I was blaming the video card. Took the card out and cleaned the slot out with an artist’s brush and alcohol – then blew it out with canned air. Surprise, no more problems with that slot.

      • James Crutchley July 23, 2018 at 1:51 am #

yeah i have a funny issue with an old GPU i use for mining. Loves sitting in my x99 board on my gaming system. Move it to another system and it just blue screens on driver installs. But plays nice with a 3000 dollar gaming system. oh the kicker is it works flawlessly in it but i put it in any other system and it just flat will not work. Windows or Linux any version. But the funny bit about that is the x99 system runs to hot with 2 8 pin graphics cards in it. So yeah it is now collecting dust on a shelf.

U was just re-reading “They said it would be easy” for the bajillionth time and noticed Heather, in her discussion with Johnson over the Obarzanek storage and elevator, she mentions that he should “… talk to Wyoming too. She has some numbers on how many vehicles can be on the streets at the same time under automated control.”. I think I glossed this during other reads but did you mean Dakota here? Or is this a subtle Heinlein reference to “The moon is a harsh mistress”?

    • Mac July 23, 2018 at 7:51 am #

Not subtle no, I probably just got through reading e-mail from a lady we call Wyoming Tess and had that stuck in my brain. I’ll fix it.

  17. James Crutchley July 23, 2018 at 6:10 pm #

Re-read April and “It’s Always Something” while i wait. about 50 pages in that book. If i get that done i will read the third book in future series again. Loving the anticipation of what the next book will be.

I read a few new books by authors i have not before but i find it hard to find new stuff to read on kindle unlimited for a while. All the suggestions are mostly crap. Hope they fix that so i can find stuff i like. I have tried to train amazon suggestions but to no avail.

I have found when i can’t find anything that once in a while i will check out a few books by authors i know i don’t like out of pure boredom. Very rarely i end up reading most of it and then end up putting it down and shaking my head in disappointment.

I read a book or two a day every day i do not work. I’m on disability because of mental health issues and every year or so i try to work full time. So far i have not ever made it past a few months of regular work. I work part time when i want for a temp agency that only cares that i show up and don’t do drugs or alcohol at work. I am one of only a handful of workers that don’t have issues so getting work from them is easy. The pay is shitty but i can call in 2 hours before work and just leave a msg at 5 am saying yeah not wanting to go to work and they don’t give me any grief for it.

I do traffic control so job is very high stress and extremely high risk and if you don’t do it right you end up either dying or cause the death of someone else. And you have to deal with drivers that scream and yell and make threats every day. The weather is also a big factor in stress as it gets very hot in summer and cold in winter. Many people are not prepared for that.

Average single lane alternating for 8 hours has no breaks for 8 or more hours with eating lunch while directing traffic. If you have to use the bathroom you have to get someone to cover for you.

Imagine standing from 7am to after 9pm during a concrete pour on a job site in 35 degree Celsius weather with no breaks and eating on the go 6 or 7 days a week.

Working for a flagging company does pay very well for an entry level job. It pays 20 an hour and time and half on Saturdays and double time on Sundays. Saturday and Sunday work is always optional and they cannot call you unless you text them saying they can.

I lasted two days before i had to leave because i had a panic attack about going back to a site. It was a very safe site but i was working 12 hour shifts and only got 5 hours of sleep as my landlord was banging on my door about nothing important at 8 pm. I had been asleep for about 45 minutes and did not get back to sleep for hours. At 5 am and exhausted thinking about the weather and the crap that happened on the previous day i freaked out. So i quit.

If i don’t manage my stress properly and deal with any minor issues right away i end up being hospitalized when my behavior gets to out there. And yes i do fine under high stress environments just fine. It’s in low stress situations where i panic and have issues.

I have same problem I was laid off from work for medical reasons. However now my surgery are done need to find a job, but during the this time I was reading a book a day in kindle unlimited. First few months I find a new author every week or so. Then a it took a months to find any new series. Mr. Chandler is one of the top fines. I hate to say it but since I found him very few measures up. His books are not just good but I can read then again and again. I trick is pulled up books you like and see the suggestion on that page for people how like this book.

      • Kevin July 24, 2018 at 9:54 am #

Above JimH had some good author listed. Michael Anderle has book in KU, took me awhile to try him because Vampire and aliens didn’t sound good but he makes it work. Laurence Dahners is also I’m my top list with Mr Chandler. His first in series are also KU, BUT MAKE SURE you have some cash because I always start buying them. However he as good prices. Love Vaz series is good and later books deal with early space exploration like April series. Quicker is good to but 14 books long lot to buy.

        • Mark July 25, 2018 at 11:54 am #

C.R. Daems stuff, and Terry Mancour’s Spellmonger Series are also very good reads.

        • Jerry Boyd July 25, 2018 at 12:19 pm #

If you like Dahners, D. L. Harrison is worth a try. All of it is on KU , so that’s a plus.

  18. aimee July 25, 2018 at 1:49 pm #

ben reeder is all so good

  19. aimee July 25, 2018 at 1:51 pm #

    Honor Raconteur too

  20. Daric July 27, 2018 at 5:21 pm #

I was wondering if now that all the Law books are out on audio will you start publishing the April books in audio as well?

    • Mac July 27, 2018 at 8:57 pm #

The decision is not mine. I was approached by Tantor to buy rights for the four Family Law books. They haven’t asked for the April series. I don’t even have any guarantee they will want Family Law #5. If you want to put a bug in their ear and ask for them you are welcome to do so.

  21. Ann July 27, 2018 at 8:21 pm #

Also give Nathan Lowell a go.
If deep pockets and very different from Nathan Lowell try John Ringo.

  22. Kevin July 27, 2018 at 10:43 pm #

Ann Nathan Lowell good. It’s really a book you don’t know why you like… no real action or suspense, but good charters and story. Love John Ringo live Free or Die (maple syrup wars ?) series and the Kindar if you can put up the S&M. Kindar is great but for me was first book for me that was hard core ( its not cover to cover sex but a few pages). Now days there tons of books with a harem and sex in Kinble Unlimited. John as a wide range of series. Also a try Tom Kratman.

    • matthew martin July 28, 2018 at 1:19 am #

ton kratman new book is up on the bean website

      • Kevin July 30, 2018 at 2:38 pm #

        Thanks

  23. Kevin July 27, 2018 at 10:53 pm #

…..Tom and John simular, but like you said expense. Both been inactive for a few years to the point I’ve looked on Google to see if still alive. Both of them and David Weber where my top three list. All were at Bean Books Wed site were you could spend $15 and get ARC copy months before steer date or when released could buy them cheaper. That’s been years ago before Kindle Unlimited. Loved Bean Wed site back then cheaper an plus a free e books to most 1st in series.

  24. Kevin July 27, 2018 at 11:11 pm #

But KU and growth of independent writers has change me. Didn’t buy David Weber next book in Honor because review and cost. Last few never developed the story much, or story slowed into long a series. I be upset no real growth. Same happen Wheel of Time series loved it up till book 7 or 8, but then you get frustrated that main character you like hardly so in the next book. That’s why I love Mr Chandler series and other independent. They come out quicker and story keeps developing. Here I’m am checking three or four times daily for april 10. It’s like a drug I’m jonesing for a fix. When I see it’s out I’ll get a high from the joy…I’m an indict dam you hope your happy?. After I’m done reading I’ll come down and be sad it’s over and the wait for my next fix

Got it. The formatting seems a bit off as the left margin is a bit large but good through the first chapter. Back to reading.
