About Mac
Mac' Chandler is supposedly retired. At the end of 2022 I moved from Rochester MI to the milder climate of North Carolina and a condo without steps much more suited to my age. (75 as I write this)
Writing is still fun and I intend to continue as long as my mind stays fresh. I'm not a expert on English or a skilled grammarian but I love to tell a story. I thank all the people who take a moment to tell me they enjoyed my work.
Can’t wait to read it!
Got hooked on April and Family Law series and now that I’m all caught up I’m stuck at the HURRY UP AND WRITE FASTER! stage. So…. ETA on the next April and Family Law books? :p
Thanks,
Joe
I think next month on Family Law 3. The next April book will be longer. I’ve just started on it. However I’m looking at more help editing if a deal goes through. That will speed things up in the future.
Thx for the update. I’ve really enjoyed the Family Law series and April. If you need readers to go over drafts I’d be more than willing to help.
I really am hoping to see what might be happening or been found on Providence.

Thank you. I’m probably going to expand my relationship with the publisher who did my paper edition of “Family Law”. That will mean I will be out of the editing business entirely. I won’t be using beta readers or consolidating all their remarks and corrections. I’ll not be doing covers either. However the plus side of this is I’ll have more time to write.
Even most traditionally published authors I know of still use beta readers. Just for general feedback. I’ve also seen them use the fan base as an extra set of eyes to check the galleys.
Seems odd that this editor you’ve used doesn’t want you to do that.
I took the comment to mean that the author would rather not take the time to consolidate the comments from a Pol of readers. Instead Mr. Chandler is going to see how it works by giving a nearly complete manuscript to the editor to find the spelling and Grammer errors and see how that works with his own process. As an independent author he obviously is trying to find the best process for himself. I don’t think anything is stopping the use of beta readers other than as a test to see if this produces a faster/smoother process. As a reader anything that may let an author be more productive is a boon.
He hasn’t actually said that he doesn’t want others having input. It’s just if I am paying him a pretty good chunk of money to edit it, then why would I still take the DAYS to go through five or six sets of beta reader replies to do what he is getting paid to do? I’m hoping to have the time to write not repeat what he’s supposed to do. Beta readers all return very different responses. I never use all the suggestions from all the readers. There is never a perfect copy that somebody won’t find fault with no matter how many eyes go over it. In fact it may surprise you – but they often contradict each other and you have to choose which one to go with or if it is important enough to poll a larger group when you have a conflict. You may think that there is only one proper spelling or form of grammar, but I get conflicts of opinion from college professors and professional editors.
Thx for the books. I’ve really enjoyed the Family Law and April series and also “Paper or Plastic?”
Always glad to hear from a happy reader. Leave a review if you are so disposed. They’re appreciated. – Mac’
I’m a fan of all of your works, but I’m definitely looking forward to the next April series book and the next Family Law book. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the kind words. I’ll do my best.
I will be disappointed to lose my position as a beta for you but understand that you are going big now and applauded your success!
Excited to hear about family law. An August or September release will put it into my queue of vacation books. I was hoping you’d release something around that time. Looking forward to that series. I really enjoy the April books, but I loved the first two family law books.
Any update on the story?
119K + words – Don’t think I’ll go over 130K.
Excellent progress! You’re right, the process that lets you write more good books with less effort is the best process.
How many words are you up to now on FL3 and how many words was Family Law (1)?
124K – took a break and took my wife to Holland MI for a weekend.
Family Law (1) has 180K words.
What’s good in Holland, Michigan? From Iowa/Illinois myself, dated a nice young lady from Michigan about 20 years ago, back when I was in the USN. Anyhow, thanks for the update on the book.
