About Mac
Mac' Chandler is supposedly retired. At the end of 2022 I moved from Rochester MI to the milder climate of North Carolina and a condo without steps much more suited to my age. (75 as I write this)
Writing is still fun and I intend to continue as long as my mind stays fresh. I'm not a expert on English or a skilled grammarian but I love to tell a story. I thank all the people who take a moment to tell me they enjoyed my work.
Yuck, that sounds extremely unpleasant.
Good thing that’s over!
And I hope my neighbours and I won’t be next, with the sleet and high winds outside today. 🙂
For blackout protection insurance install a powerwall of at least 10KWH (Telsa $3500). It won’t cover all daily electrical uses as a family may use up to 30 KWH a day but it will allow lighting and a few other things that are a priority.
I thought I replied to you and Jim Davis but don’t see it here. We live in a small condo and there is nowhere to put a powerwall or a generator. We just lost heat and two catalytic propane heaters kept it comfortable. We still had hot water. I could have cooked on a camping stove but we mostly went out. This is only the 2nd time in 30 years we have had a multi-day outage. It was below freezing the whole outage period so I put our frozen stuff in the trunk of the car to save it.
We could have gone to the Royal Park Hotel about a quarter mile away at the bottom of the hill we are on. But no need and their rooms start about $400 a night. I teasingly told my wife we could get the Presidential suite when she said they’d fill up fast…
Good training…
Do like we did: keep plenty of batteries in the house… and move to Florida. 🙂
Glad your power is back!
