About Mac
Mac' Chandler is supposedly retired. At the end of 2022 I moved from Rochester MI to the milder climate of North Carolina and a condo without steps much more suited to my age. (75 as I write this)
Writing is still fun and I intend to continue as long as my mind stays fresh. I'm not a expert on English or a skilled grammarian but I love to tell a story. I thank all the people who take a moment to tell me they enjoyed my work.
I enjoyed this book, even though it was different from your other books. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. I was looking forward to possible sequels in the future.
Thank you. People who read it mostly liked it but it’s hard to break out of a mold and people know the series and want them.
I only can say I’m one of those who needs a bit time to get warm with another stories/series.
So this time I delayed buying until and missed it this time ๐ it’s a pity for me, so I’m going to console myself with your new snippet ๐
Thanks for the hard work, the snippet and the most important:
I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Both of us finally well so yea! Thanks.
You could try publishing in under a pen name possibly and starting it that way. A lot of authors do that. It might sell poorly or better and will most likely get less negative response.
I’m sorry to hear you had to pull – it initially didn’t call to me, but I really got into the 2nd part of the book and had been looking to read more about their adventures.
I was slow to get into it but eventually did and agree that it was a worthwhile read.
Ann
I’m sorry it didn’t work out well for you. As with one the earlier commentors I found the start off putting but persisted reading and really warmed up to it and was anticipated further books in this storyline. It may be that it may have worked like your short works were for me. I tend to not read short stories, as I generally find them unsatisfactory. After reading the April and the Family Law series’ and finding them quite enticing, I went and bought the rest of your works.
That is such a shame, it’s a great story. Glad I got it right away. I love every book you’ve written so far.
I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was new and different, but you can see the mindset and ideas behind characters in other books refleshed in different ways. With that said, if the book is causing issues for you then by all means take it down. Glad I purchased it though.
I liked it a lot.
I was looking forward to sequels.
Thanks Mic
Sorry to hear that. Is the problem one that can be fixed and then the book be republished?
I enjoyed the book. I was looking forward to a sequel. I’m glad I purchased the book as soon as it was published. I don’t understand how the book could be causing problems. It’s just a book, if someone doesn’t like it just don’t buy it. If Amazon can publish pornography and books written by criminals, well…
I couldn’t put it down! Hoping you are able to overcome the issues and write some sequels!
Sorry to here, the book keep getting better and better as I read. If republished let us know so i rewrite my revies. Gave it 5 stars.
Problems for you you’re not free to discuss? I can hardly ask you to discuss problems that you’re explicitly “not free to discuss”, but what sort of problems could they possibly be?! drawing a total blank here. That’s what I get for waiting I guess, and will not be making the same mistake when your next book drops.
Im sorry to hear that. I m glad now I bought it straight away because I enjoyed it very much, as I have all your work.
“people know the series and want them.”
While this is true, the first book of yours I read was Neither Here nor There, and my enjoyment of that led me to the April series.
Glad you started from either end!
I liked it, and was looking forward to more in that world. Sorry to hear that it caused problems, but continuing to look forward to any further of your efforts!
Sorry to hear this, I enjoyed the book, and it seemed like a great world view for potential future expansion. I’m looking forward to your future work!
Thatโs u fortunate. Iโve read it 4 times with kindle unlimited. I would love sequels. If u publish it again Iโll buy it
Thanks, clay
SJW can’t handle dissent. The Ideology must be adhered too.
I believe SJW’s cannot handle the possibility of Black Superiorities existence.
The is the only third rail taboo I can see.
I was actually really annoyed when I realized that the book got a higher priority that the new Family Law which was the one you had been dropping all the snippets on, so I figured I would save my money until it came out.
But knowing your quality of writing and seeing the reviews I gave in and bought the book, and I’ll be damned if that was not some really well spent money, I loved the book, the book has some really interesting perspectives towards things and i am looking forward to getting the sequel, which after seeing this I have to hope you will change your mind and actually put it back out at some time and do a sequel.
I really think it might have take some others the same and they were annoyed to be expecting one thing and then get another to show up. We all tend to see what we want to see not what was actually there too often, please don’t throw away the book it, and give it some company, because now you have me waiting on 4 series hoping for new books; April in family Law time, Family Law to give an alternate perspective maybe to feed back to April, Neither here nor there, and now The way things seem… The title and the description tho might benefit from a little tweaking.
39k words into Family Law 5. We’ll see if Audible is happy enough with Family Law 1 to 4 to pick it up too. It will be another 2 quarters before all 4 of them earn out their advances and I start getting some royalty checks.
It didn’t seem to be something I’d like, but since you wrote it, I picked it up and I’m glad I did. It was fascinating. I was hoping for more. If its children come forth at some point, I’ll jump in and pick them up for sure. And, as far as that goes, anything you care to publish ๐
Wow, I am stunned. The book totally rocked and I wanted to read more of the magic stuff happening and evolving
Ah! A mystery wrapped in an enigma! Just keep it off the market and let it stew for a time. I’m sure when the time is right you can justify reissuing it with the sequel and do fine. If you wish you can bequeath that proto-series and a sample of your DNA to a promising young sucker…er publisher who will then clone you and force your clone to write the sequel!!!
BWA HA! HA! HA!
Evidence the Hawaiians were remnants of an ancient technological civilization… Why did their royalty have body servants to take their hair and fingernail clippings away and burn them if they didn’t know about DNA? I’m going to be cremated THOROUGHLY, and leave special instructions for my hair brush and toothbrush…
I’m bringing you back to continue writing forever, bwahahahaha… *ahem*. Or, maybe just for a chat?
Where did you find this? I think about all I know about Hawaiians was from James Michener, and a little about Maori culture.
My aunt and uncle had a lot of old books on Hawaii and Arabia. I’d live for months with them instead of my parents and read their books and listen to their music. I was able to remember the short form of the one book to find it on Amazon. It is: https://www.amazon.com/description-exquisite-provisional-government-annexation/dp/B00B79FIBY
The other was a compilation of a newspaper series. That sort of serial used to be a common means of publication. Indeed I remember Poe did a lot of newspaper serials. I can’t remember the name of the paper but it was a series particularly about the history of Hawaiian royalty. Both mentioned safeguarding body samples as a protection from magic – but as the saying goes – any sufficiently advanced tech. is indistinguishable from magic.
I also remember they believed in a supreme god whose name should not be spoken and he used a lesser god in creation, which closely mirrors the bible account and Jewish tradition. I remember the first time I saw a Hebrew transliteration of the old testament – they put an asterisk BEFORE the tetragrammaton instead of after as is the normal usage in English, because they wanted to warn you it was ineffable.
” leave special instructions for my hair brush and toothbrushโฆ”

I enjoyed reading the story. I’m sorry you had to pull it, but I’m glad I read it.
I can’t remember if I used kindle unlimited or actually bought it (I’ll have to check my library lol).
Let’s face it. If you write it, I’m going to buy it. I actually like that you expanded your subject material. This was a good read.
Thanks – I have a collection of first chapters that could all be books, but I probably have more to write in the April universe than I’ll ever finish.
i read the way things seem – seemed good I’d read any sequels. Unfortunate if it wasn’t making money or was too troublesome
I can tell you from my own publishing experience that when you break out of the mold that readers have created around you they get upset. I’ve done some standalone books that while they wanted them they didn’t once it was published. Stand your ground and publish what you want. Eventually they will praise it.
Another writer since advised me to use a pen name for radically different books.
A little too close to reality? Loved the book and wanted a sequel. I have long considered the possibility that we are being influenced by off planet entities. The ultimate conspiracy theory? With credible evidence of space flight and otherworldly visitors scattered throughout history…. Maybe not that fanciful.
I enjoyed the book and just found out about this when I went looking to reread it and get my wife a copy but couldn’t find it. If things change, please let know, and thank you for all the other great books. We are just finishing rereading the April series to be up to speed for 10.
Ten is out – working on 11, but Family Law 5 will likely be first. Have you read that series? It is a continuation.
Sorry to read this, this was a good story, well written and very enjoyable.
The blurb didn’t draw me in, but I know I love all your works so I got it anyways, it was soo good! I really enjoy the different take on “magic” it was really interesting, I hope you write more in the future of this series (?).
Thank you, but no, it wasn’t very well received and I can better use my time with the established series.
I’m really surprised; the book so far (haven’t finished it yet) is another one I can’t put down. Your imagination and innovative view of the world is inspiring! keep it up!
Cheers!
I liked it a lot. I have read it only twice now, but was looking forward to the next. There was so much there.
You do what you need to do, they are your books.
Thanks for the two snippets.
Please put the book back up. I went to buy it and it wasn’t there, that was disappointing. Honestly the only reason I hesitated at first was because the blurb was so bad at describing it. I have loved all your other books. I think it just needs a different blurb.
Sorry but not an option. It would create difficulties for me.
Cliffhanger!
Needed a bit more than the abrupt ending.
An away trip to teach his new girlfriend?
Family squabbles with half-brother?
Hunter-Liller teams looking for further monster puppeteers?
Good suggestions. This was different that my usual – appreciate your ideas.
Mac I liked the book enough to be looking forward to a followup.
If you write it, I will read it. I’ve yet to be disappointed by any of your stories. Always something to think about. Look forward to whatever you do next. Celia
I read it in the Kindle Unlimited library and really liked it. When I went back later to buy it, it was gone. I was really hoping for a sequel. If you ever republish, or do a sequel, please let me/us know.
I’m late to your writing, and this was the first I picked out. I truly enjoyed it and hoped for a sequel. I hope the problems weren’t really bad.
