About Mac
Mac' Chandler is a retired in the pleasant little town of Rochester MI and writes when he isn't puttering about being a house husband. I've taken to posting my writing for sale on Kindle. I hang out at Baen Bar Chat and shoot rifles even older than me. I've worked so many jobs it is hard to remember them all. Most had to do with some flavor of machining or construction. In particular I was a mold maker and a plumber. I enjoy photography and when I have the patience drawing. For some reason animals like me, not so much people. I stop at garage sales when I see them as well as most red lights. If you see a beat up old black pickup truck that looks like it needs towed I may be somewhere close.
Mac is no one interested in Narrating/voice acting the April series? I would hope for the people that did Family law would step up. I would love to listen to what I have read a number of times.
Tantor approached me for the first four from Family Law.
I offered the stand alone and two more Family Law and they accepted.
When they get the next two up I’ll offer the April series.
Great news! I just bought it and will enjoy listening to it with a small glass of Lagavulin after I get back from work.
Excellent choice! Although I enjoy Laphroaig and Ardbeg, Lagavulin is up among my top favorites (which are all Islays). Should go well with the audio book

“I admit there are no fools backing this adventure. They’re all solid people. The contract is fair. There is risk. Nobody has done this before and not all they learned doing the Rock recovery applies to a snowball.
Error this was the second iceball recovery, the first one sold all its water/ice before it returned.
April 5
“I’d rather see if perhaps the pickings are better among the asteroids and satellites of the gas giants first, before we look for what we need on a planet with inhabitants. It is after all at the bottom of another gravity-well, even if not as deep as Earth. In particular I’d rather none of us make a commitment to Mars, one way or the other, as Spox for any of our companies, before we discuss it again. Is that agreeable?” he asked. But he didn’t sound bossy.
There are closer pickings ie the NEAs (Amors, Apollos, Atens, Atiras, etc) which range in size from <5m diameter to over 1 km diameter. Resources in NEAs are Silicates, Ferrous metals & oxides, Cement, Industrial CaO, Phosphates, Water, Carbon, Nitrogen, Sulfur & Sulfides sufficient to support 150 billion people or more.
If Delores is a licensed pilot capable of deep trans-lunar work and if she hasn't been to Mars or was on the Rock mission where was her deep trans-lunar work?
Oops.
I had to snicker when I read your email address
Clever
I dropped twitter but I used to be Red Shirt Rental there.
I just finished rereading the Family Law series. Are you doing more. I read a great deal and one way I decide if I like a series or a book is by how much I like the characters. I would like to know more about Lee and Gordon and all their friends and acquaintances. I have also read and reread the April series. Are you planning more? I do hope so.
I hope so too.
Snoopy might be going to the damaged USNA base for some X-head missiles but where next?
Well as the USNA is out of the space one possibility is to take over Thorn. It isn’t a habital world but produces a great deal of wealth. A planetary claim could be sufficient but a system claim would be better.
Thorn (as I imagine it).
An American World, one of the three known Deadly Worlds.
Based there are roboticists (robotic engineers, software engineers, etc) to manage the bio-sampling drones and carrier craft (Aerial, Terrestrial, Marine, etc.) and the clean room research microbiologists, biologists, botanists, organic chemists, pharmacologists, etc., to manage, organise and analyse the samples for later synthesis and digital pickup.
Plus Stewards (cleaners, maids, cooks with ‘farmers’ running meat vats and vege vats and integrated multi-tropic aquaponics linked to hydroponics, recreationalists, etc.),
Plus Administration (Payments & Bank, Medical, IT, Comms, Power, Lighting, Air, Water, Waste, Commissary).
Discovering – Human, (Hinth, Derf) pharmacology, domesticated microbiological pharmacology, domesticated animal pharmacology, domesticated plant pharmacology, domesticated fungal pharmacology, plus scents, dyes, cosmetics, preservatives, enzymes, metabolic pathways, interesting carbohydrates, interesting fats, interesting proteins, protein binders/glues, etc.
As a deadly world no biological material is allowed to leave the planet, just information.
A Space Station to support gas giant miners and asteroid miners and refiners & to support and dock freighters, tankers and shuttles and to support the island base. With Messenger Drones.
An island mostly clean room research base (after EMPs to kill local life) with earth life terraforming. Shuttle port with container handling, etc.
Plus gas mine network supporting freighters coming from Earth (and/or nearest mass settled world or industrial world).
Plus network supporting messenger drones from Thorn to Earth (or nearest USNA Naval base and to nearest mass settled or industrial world) and back.
However establishing a claim over a previous claim with a resident population and probably researchers from several nations and some non USNA companies will be contentious.
If made it would require immediate costs.
First payment to all existing USNA staff and employees of USNA companies and/or transport back to Earth (or any world on the route) employee choice.
Second payment for freighters to take neccessaries to Thorn plus payment for freighter gas mining.
Third payment for the messenger drone network to and from Thorn.
Vested employee rights (exo world taxation, accrued recreation leave, sick leave, long service leave, pension payments, exo world bonus, deadly world bonus, patents, etc) will be contentious.
Snoopy maybe wise to negotiate their claim to a percentage of the total net wealth coming from Thorn for X years with the system attaining independence and gaining all of the expenses and most of the wealth.
Employee & company system share holders re salary, benefits, accrued rights, and patents, etc.
You realize by speculating like this you preclude me from using any of these scenes? I could be accused of plagiarism or sued for using them without credit or compensation. If I even thought of something too similar I’d set it aside.
Mac, you should add a legal statement or “Terms of Use” or such to your site, stating that by submitting comments, the poster is licensing them under one of the creative commons licenses. See (https://chooser-beta.creativecommons.org/) to select what you think is appropriate; this would allow you to use ideas and suggestions posted here.
You would probably want either CC BY 4.0 or CC0 1.0, depending on whether you want to give credit if you use ideas or not.
If you talk to a lawyer, you could also get a custom license that would just allow you to use posted ideas in your books, though you should probably still do that if you use the creative commons licenses anyway.
Too much trouble Glen because I’m not starved for ideas. But thanks.
Use any of my posted ideas freely as I’m speculating in your IP and on your site.
There is at least 1 or more geniuses at the Luna Marseille base.
Someone who created the nanite armour (with software controlled chameleon capability) as well as the ‘French Mills’, and possibly other nanite things as yet unknown. Why doesn’t Heather, April or Jeff have a spy in their workshop (mechotronic or human or both).
There could’ve been 1 more geniuses perhaps at the Chinese base or the Japanese base or Armstrong (only a Loony is identified) as someone created the accumulator/capacitor that stores kilowatt centuries of power (if large enough and fully charged) and is explosive if shorted. A multi use device. Why doesn’t Heather, April or Jeff have a spy in their workshop (mechotronic or human or both).
Weir’s jumpdrive was a work of genius but so was the creation of the 3 small interlinked polywell reactors that provided both electrial power and thrust. Previously polywell reactors were sized like fission reactors – huge. Why doesn’t Chen, April or Jeff have a spy in their workshop (mechotronic or human or both).
“The Loonies have almost limitless solar power to charge the accumulator”/capacitor (but only if they are in one on the near constant sunlight areas) and with massive solar panel fields.
Otherwise they will require alternative power for up to 2 weeks out of 4 and possibly a peaker power generator:
accumulator/capacitors?,
Jeff’s fusion reactors?,
2 week X MW batteries?,
X MW fuelcells & fuel (heat & electricity)?,
X MW Americium RTGs (heat & electricity)?,
X MW hydrid-fission reactors (heat & electricity Brayton + Rankine combined cycle power plant)?,
X MW polywell reactors?,
X MW solar concentrated thermal & molten salt accumulator?,
plus Thermo-electrics (Thermogalvanic cells?, generators, Seebeck effect, Peltier effect, [Thermoelectric heat pumps & thermoelectric cooling devices, Mx Thermocouples and thermopiles] and Thomson effect plus Joule heating and ordinary thermal conductivity), etc.) and Pyroelectricity with heat pumps (refrigeration & airconditioning).
Loonies also likely to use insulated bowls & cups, etc. to keep hot food & beverages hot longer and cold foods & beverages cold longer.
