Great addition to the series, got the 4th one done yet? ?

The series just keeps getting more and more interesting. The one thing that keeps throwing me while reading is the use of the word adapt in it’s various forms when I think you mean adopt or one of it’s forms. For example when talking of Gordon adopting Lee as his daughter, you use a form of adapt.

Regardless on any such small errors-if indeed it was one, it’s a great series and I thank you for the wonderful story.

Yes, the errors were not too bad, although the use of April one time instead of Lee rather threw me. Also, I thought the Fargoer cruiser Murphy’s Law was left behind in the Badger system to protect it instead of returning to Derfhome. Other than that, there were only a few quote marks missing and a mix up or three with tenses, -ed and -ing. Quite respectable really for books today.

I really enjoyed the story, as always. I was concerned about how you were merging the series, but you handled it well. Well done.

Sometimes I feel you write too well. I had to read your story in one go and now I am left wanting for more again.

By the way, I wonder how Lee will handle the sale and reverse-engineering of the gravity plating and other advanced tech. Will she collaborate with the Lewis-Anderson-Singh triumvirate or go ahead alone?

    • Chuck C October 7, 2015 at 1:41 am #

The fact that Lee didn’t know when Cricket was accelerating implies the 3 already have it, and perhaps it’s already been traded between the 3 and the Catapillars.

      • aze October 7, 2015 at 9:27 am #

Jeff has his own artificial gravity. It may be that he improved it and that is what they use in the Cricket. In that case it may be a bit worse or better compared to the alien tech.

I’ve gotten about 1/3 to 1/2 through so far and the story is pretty enjoyable so far. However, like others I have noticed a number of errors (somewhere around 20-30 so far). For a non professionally edited book, that would be no big deal, but if you paid somebody professional editing type money, you might not have gotten your money’s worth…

    • Matt G. October 7, 2015 at 10:19 am #

The only mistakes that stood out to me were when April was subbed for Lee in 2 locations. Of course, I’ve never been much of a spelling Nazi.

But the biggest complaint I have Is there needs to be at least 5 more already finished because the time between books is killing me!!

Please keep producing these great books! every time you publish one it makes my week!

      • Mac October 7, 2015 at 11:29 am #

I’ll have the editor do a word search and find those. It’s harder when they are both in the same book. You have to read context – not just looking for a brain blip.

      • Brett October 7, 2015 at 11:57 am #

I think there were also cases with Eddie and Ernie.

Most of the other things were cases of missing words, wrong tenses or extra words.

        • Mac October 7, 2015 at 3:05 pm #

Found three and fixed them – Thanks.

I believe amazon’s rating system is messed up. It told me there was one review, 5 stars, but wouldn’t let me see it. I wrote a 5 star review and posted it a while ago. Just checked and it says there are two reviews, one 5 star and one 4 star, won’t let me read the review I wrote. What’s going on?

  8. Terry Dean October 6, 2015 at 6:19 pm #

Reviews are checked by Amazon.com before being displayed for the book, but number of reviews and ratings are displayed sooner. If you can get to your profile (click on entry on line under Your Amazon.com), all your reviews are shown immediately.

Another excellent story thank you. Now waiting for April 6. I suggest that in future you add a couple of weeks to the expected release date when you post about that because there always seem to be last minute delays and diversions that cause a lot of disappointment.

    • Chuck C October 7, 2015 at 6:09 am #

Personally, I’d rather hear what he thinks is going to happen than have him keep silent until it’s published.

And, business-wise, having his fans poised to buy it as soon as it’s out helps his Amazon ranking, which helps sales.

I just finished Secrets. Excellent addition to the series. I must comment though, if you paid someone to proofread you need a refund. This story was filled with obvious errors such as Our instead of Out. I did not keep count but I would estimate at least 100 errors, they were usually a wrong word due to misspelling although there was a “your instead of you’re” close to the end.

Did not take away from my enjoyment of the story and I am still a great fan of both series.

    • Mac October 8, 2015 at 9:29 pm #

Thank you. Specific errors are always much more useful generalities. There will be a corrected version posted when we have a little longer list of these.

        Mac –
Do you have a forum for submitting these types of errors? I’m an editor in a previous life and some errors just pop off the page for me. I don’t want to post in a place where it would seem like I’m book bashing.

The stories you are creating are very important to me – I’ve re-read the April series about 5 times now (twice waiting for FL3 to release). I really love the universe and people you’ve developed. I’m very excited to see where the April series goes before the timeline meshes with Lee’s era. I can see so many potential avenues of opening up this universe you’ve created. It just keeps getting me more excited to see what you’re family will do next. (I’m hopping in my chair).

I just wish I read a little slower. Most books take less than a day for me to read.

OMG. I totally used you’re instead of your. edit.. ediiit.. where’s the edit button!

My e-mail shows in my replies. It’s mchandler@ameritech.net. I welcome any errors of any sort or just suggestions about plot continuity. Thank you.

Great book! Waiting impatiently to see how much trouble Gabriel gets in for giving Gordon an up-close-and-personal sensor run at the new drive.

    Book is aquired! Thank you!

Random thought: have you considered having your books in audio format? (saying this after choosing my book for the month from Audible

    • Mac October 8, 2015 at 9:02 pm #

That doesn’t occur to me easily. I’m functionally deaf. I hear noise but can’t process speech. Will run it past my editor.
      ****************************
My editor says his associates experience is that it costs $4K to $5K to do a GOOD audio book. And that working with less than the best proves horribly time consuming going back and forth and fixing errors. I simply can’t afford that right now. If I were selling 5x or 6x as much product it would be right on the edge of possible.

      • PaigeFault October 9, 2015 at 12:08 am #

I recommend Amanda Ronconi or Kimberly Alexis for your readers if you do. I especially think Amanda would do a good April. Kimberly has a more mature voice, but is still flexible enough I think she could do it.

        • Katie October 9, 2015 at 3:45 am #

I’m a funny audio book consumer. I don’t choose any audio books that I have not already read & enjoyed the story…

I like to listen to them for car trips etc when reading a book just really wouldn’t be the thing to do (especially if you are the driver).

          • Katie October 10, 2015 at 6:45 am #

I didn’t realise it was that expensive! A pity (since I’d love to add the April books on audio format to my library). I think (though not certain etc just from someones comments one time) that you can work with Audible & just get the book done & you have to split the royalties with the reader…. If that is so, maybe something to consider…. or maybe not lol (depending on time, royalty split etc)

      • Paigefault October 12, 2015 at 12:48 am #

Is that 5K per book? Dang. I wonder if we could crowd fund it.

        • Katie October 12, 2015 at 3:05 am #

Crowd funding could work, lol! I’ve crowd funded funnier stuff…..

          • Katie October 12, 2015 at 3:06 am #

            * contributed funding to crowd funding for funnier stuff I mean

Thanks for the book! Damn! What a teaser for the April Series! Woot Woot Bring it can’t wait!
I love Audio for books that are a re-read. Often I hear something that I skimmed over. Driving and listening are the best! If you go audio get the right narrator! Quicker by Laurence Dahners is a great book and series but the Narrator who is obviously from North East can’t keep her native accent out of Native North Carolina Girls voice. Just didn’t work for me.
