“The Way Things Seem” – published

My new stand alone book was uploaded this morning to Amazon.
When it appears later I’ll add a link here.
I forgot to say it is unrelated to either series in the blurb, but I’ll add that when it is live. Here’s the cover:

I had some trouble with big indents but fixed it in the last half hour.

That was so awesome! I’m off to leave a review.

Excellent story. I left a review, I am completely happy with your writing.

I found some minor editing points to update on your story.

Notes for “The Way Things Seem”

    Chapter 17 – Location 3235
    bulked
    Note – Location 3235
Typo or word accidentally replaced where the word is ‘balked’.

    Highlight (yellow) – Location 3244
“The one spot they hit a block of gridlock he did hit a trash bin taking a shortcut excursion across the corner up on the sidewalk. David felt justified.”
    Note – Location 3245
Something is off, suggest putting the word “where”, and place comma after the word gridlock and use the word cab driver instead of he. In the last sentence, surprised made more sense than justified.

    Highlight (yellow) – Location 3251
“It was all kind of insane.”

    Note – Location 3251
It was all kinds of insane. Plural.

    Highlight (yellow) – Location 3266
“Well, that was put most modestly,” Crenshaw said.
    Note – Location 3266
The word well is missing for the phrase ‘well put’

    Chapter 19
    Highlight (yellow) – Location 4022
    hundred and ten kph,
    Note – Location 4022
Non american phrasing for an American character in America. Maybe I missed a detail or something.

    Chapter 23
    Note – Location 5579
” character is missing in the beginning of the paragraph to indicate speaking.

Another interesting story. I enjoyed it a lot, and I hope you keep writing. So far, I have not found a book by you that I did not like. Good work.

    • Mac November 13, 2018 at 8:21 pm #

That’s what I like to hear. I’m 71 but I’ll keep at it as long as I can.

  6. Joyce November 14, 2018 at 9:16 am #

Enjoyed this one very much. As with all your books, I’m left wishing for more. Many thanks, and keep up the good work!

  7. Jerry Boyd November 14, 2018 at 2:54 pm #

GOOD STUFF! Any chance of it being the start of a new series?

  8. Mike Weatherford November 15, 2018 at 3:55 pm #

Excellent story, Mac. I look forward to the sequel (hint, hint. 8^)). Left a review.

Thanks Mac. Another great story. You always leave me wanting more which I think is one of the hallmarks of a great writer.

Looking forward to this, just got in for KU. Just wondering though if we can get a post sometime soon about future plans for more books. I love both the family law and April series but I’m hoping you expand the world of “Neither Here nor There” into a series like these other two. I’ll probably enjoy this just as much and want a fourth series too!

    • Mac November 17, 2018 at 4:58 am #

I won’t say never – but Family Law 5 coming up next.

      • Everitt Mickey November 29, 2018 at 9:17 pm #

        soon I hope?

What an excellent read! Love all your books, repeatedly! Thanks!

Only potential typo that stumbled my read was near the end when his new companies were asking for input, except one only wanted his proxy. Timidity is used to describe the behavior, I would have expected temerity instead.

I love learning new things and often look up the names you choose for characters and other “stuff”, quite often there’s an interesting “tail/tale” to that “dog”.

  13. Linda November 17, 2018 at 2:42 pm #

Awesome story. How do you manage to have 3 different series? All of your books are good. By the way did you ever get any help with your laundry? I remember you complained about that a long time ago.

  14. Big Ben November 17, 2018 at 11:31 pm #

Another great story – one I would love to see continued into a series.
Could have used another couple of passes by your beta readers, though. This one seemed to have more simple editing errors than your usual releases … what I call spell-checker errors. The spell checker doesn’t flag it and the word is close but slightly off.
“He offered to advice him.” When it should be, “He offered to advise him.”
However I enjoy your books so much that as long as they’re in English I’m snatching ‘em right off the digital shelf as fast as you can write ‘em.

Greetings from Finland! Not sure what kind if statistics you get from Amazon, but I can confirm you have a fan here.

This was a wonderful story that kept getting better as it went along. Not that I dont apprecite April and FL books, I would gladly see more books in this universe.

    • Mac November 18, 2018 at 6:55 pm #

I get payments listed under Germany and Denmark. I assume that includes other countries in norther Europe/Scandinavian but I’ve never seen it detailed anywhere. I don’t get regular sales every month attributed to France or Italy. Thanks for the praise. I’m working on Family Law 5. – Mac’

  16. Paul November 19, 2018 at 2:45 pm #

Wonderful! Where the hell do you get theses ideas?

Man, I am not usually impatient, but I can hardly wait to read more of your stories. 🙂

    • Mac November 19, 2018 at 9:11 pm #

It doesn’t even involve drugs, unless you count coffee.

  17. Michal Gudejko November 19, 2018 at 8:35 pm #

Great book again, hope the muse will strike you (not too hard) to write more in this universe almost as much as I wish for more Family Law/April books.

  18. Richard L Boese November 21, 2018 at 12:05 am #

Wonderful story, Mac. I didn’t expect to like it the first couple of chapters. Glad I kept reading. It felt very much like the beginning of a much longer story arc. I’m your age, so I understand the unrelenting march of time. I wish you long life and happiness.

  19. Eric November 21, 2018 at 5:45 am #

Mac, I was pleasantly surprised that FL4 is out on audiobook. I thought they were only going to do 1,2,3 to start. I’m glad I decided to relisten and saw number four available. I’m not sure if I missed the announcement of what.

  20. Kevin November 22, 2018 at 12:57 am #

    Happy turkey day

  21. Everitt Mickey November 23, 2018 at 11:54 pm #

    Dammit Mackey!
I got the book. I read it in one sitting.
I was rilly, rilly getting into it…and.
    And…
    IT ENDED!

That is NOT to be tolerated.
I assume it’s the first book in a sequel?

  22. Mr. Meval November 24, 2018 at 10:54 pm #

I like this book more than I know how to say. That is one reason I have delayed giving effusive yet thin feedback. I love series, don’t doubt that but if the author concentrates on the eternal series because it is more lucrative then new books such as this will not be written. If they set out to craft a 3, 5 or 10 book series because that is all that a publisher will buy that is a tragedy for the author and for us. I am quite happy Mackey self publishes. I am glad for him and many other authors. It gives them vast freedom even though it may also be vast risk.
    .
That makes me wonder what will happen when a few appealing authors I like get ‘uncorked’ by the millstone of a publisher around their neck when they dispense with them like the used diaper they are.

  23. Moses Lambert November 25, 2018 at 3:43 pm #

Very good. I like the way David is just solidly-grounded, pretty much unflappable. I enjoyed this book a lot, and will be looking forward to its sequel(s)…
Is there any way to be put on a notification list for when they come out? I’m really not attracted by your other series, so I’d prefer not to receive constant advertising email.
One gripe: You really really should have someone go through and clean up the *many* punctuation and spelling errors.

    • Mac November 25, 2018 at 5:38 pm #

You can follow me on Amazon or here. For just this storyline no. Not sure if or when I’ll get back to it. I’ve updated the book three times already top remove errors. You can often reload it from you Amazon devices. I did have two of my best readers too busy to help, so it may have a few more typos.

  24. Zebulon Dakota November 27, 2018 at 12:53 pm #

I’m about 80% through it so far. I didn’t expect to like it, but I loved it. As others have mentioned, lots of typos, mostly missing words, run-together sentences, etc. In one place, David became Davis. None of it got in the way, though. Sequel or series? If you get there, I’ll buy it (them). In the meantime, I’m awaiting FL5 🙂

    • Mac November 27, 2018 at 1:37 pm #

I’m working on the typos. A couple of my best readers are too busy right now. I appreciate the specific error – will go look for that. No promises on a sequel. Family Law 5 started.

      • Mark M May December 4, 2018 at 4:10 pm #

        Hey Mac:

If you forward me the book in an editable format, I can go proofread/correct spelling issues for you.

I just did so for Alma Boykin.

  25. Kevin November 29, 2018 at 8:07 pm #

    Any ETA on FL5

    • Mac December 4, 2018 at 4:12 pm #

Nope. I am also doing a quick read-through of the older books to get them ready for print. They are really rough.

  26. Craig Taylor December 8, 2018 at 2:28 am #

The Way Things Seem is another excellent story. It seems to call for a sequel, but I can wait until after the finish of FL5. As If I had a choice 😉

Your stories make my life better, Mac. Thanks.

    • Mac December 8, 2018 at 2:06 pm #

      That’s nice to hear.

  27. Cheryl December 9, 2018 at 11:21 am #

Ditto what Craig said. These are all stories that I can read over and over. That’s why I always hit BUY right away when you release a new book.

    • Joyce December 10, 2018 at 8:35 am #

Ditto what Craig and Cheryl said.

  28. Jennifer December 18, 2018 at 1:08 pm #

I’m starting a re-read of the Family Law series. Any news on an ETA for the next one?

    • Mac December 24, 2018 at 3:05 am #

No hard date. Been sick a few days. At about page 50 on Family Law 5.

  29. Aleea Brewer December 24, 2018 at 2:33 am #

I really enjoyed “The Way Things Seem”, it took me back to “April” and next will be “Family Law”. I enjoy your writings. I think I own each electronically, and a couple in paperback. Looking for to FL#5, as well as more April. Paper or Plastic was fun.

    • Mac December 24, 2018 at 3:03 am #

Thank you – working on FL 5.

  30. Jennifer December 24, 2018 at 1:18 pm #
